Abstract
Surface Water Velocity is an important factor when considering surface water hydrogeology as it is often used to calculate average cross section velocity and hence directly affects the calculation of discharge of rivers. It is therefore important to have a quick, easy and efficient way of measuring velocity. This research is targeted towards implementing an innovative way to measure surface water velocity by using basic trigonometry and the Rotation Vector Sensor present in everyday Android smart phones.
